Welcome to The Daily Byte, Tech Corner’s brand new segment.  With the Daily Byte we hope to accomplish in one post what normally we would accomplish with many posts.  That is to give you the most important news in small and captivating tidbits.

  • Sony announces the release of a few Windows 8.  The most notable of the bunch is the Sony VAIO Tap 20, a 20 inch all-in-one.  Oh, I forgot to mention that it’s battery powered.  Giant tablet anyone?
  • Samsung announces Samsung Galaxy S III mini.  The Galaxy S III’s smaller identical brother boasts a Super Amoled WVGA quality 4 inch screen, dual-core 1 GHz processor with 1 GB of RAM, a smaller 1,500mAh battery and last but not least, a smaller 5 MP camera around back.  All other specs remain the same if not comparable.
  • Motorola RAZR HD and RAZR MAXX HD will be released on October 18th.
  • Microsoft sues Motorola in Germany again.  This times it is related to Google Maps, directly involving Google for the first time.
  • Apple hires former Samsung chip designer guru.  Presumably, foretelling Apple’s desire to help it stay at the top.
  • Lenovo surpasses HP for the number one spot as the worlds top PC manufacture.

  • Microsoft tells Windows partners to brace themselves.  Microsoft’s “fundamental shift” towards more Microsoft designed devices is coming.  That means more competition for Microsoft oem partners.  Microsoft wins and oems lose.
  • Google returns to its roots and releases GSA 7.0 for those in the enterprise world that need a Google search for internal documents.
  • Android 4.1.2 starts rolling out to Nexus devices.  Landscape mode now works on the home screen.
  • Surprise, Surprise!!  T-Mobile’s CTO suggests that a marriage between Sprint and metroPCS would cause Sprint many network problems because of Sprint’s dying network.  He somehow forgot that Sprint is in-fact shifting its network towards GSM as most non-GSM carriers around the world are if they have any plans of releasing LTE in any form.
